My Approach

My Approach

As a result of many years of counselling practice, I have observed that the effectiveness of  counselling comes from the therapeutic relationship that develops between the counsellor and  the person seeking support . Seeing a counsellor for the first time may promote a sense of  uncertainty and vulnerability.  It may take a burst of courage to feel able to share your unique concerns, hurts and emotional distress.  Feeling able to engage with a counsellor is supported when they offer positive regard and a nurturing and safe environment.

Whist the counselling technique/s have significance, it is the quality of the counselling relationship that facilitates a process of deep exploration and growth.  As a counsellor, I aim to travel with you on the counselling journey as a trusted collaborator or ally.  Your strengths, resilience and insights will be encouraged and very much utilised in the process.

Being mindful of the priorities above, I am able to draw on a range of therapeutic approaches including Person Centred, Somatic, Narrative , Cognitive/Behavioural and Acceptance and Commitment Therapies. It is my hope from these approaches that the therapy offered is multi-dimensional and responsive  to your preferred way of  communicating, learning and reflecting.  I actively work to facilitate an environment that is warm, collaborative, respectful and inclusive. I hope that anyone seeking support from Tulip Tree Therapy feels welcomed and that their unique qualities are valued and upheld in the counselling process.

My home page details the areas in which I can provide counselling support and below you will find pages detailing specific areas of interest or experience that I focus on within my practice.
